I love that I am writing this post on Groundhog Day, a holiday made famous by the 1993 film featuring Bill Murray and the real star, ingenue Punxsutawney Phil, the incomparable groundhog with whom Bill Murray’s character Phil Conners shares his name. Groundhog Day is a movie about becoming incrementally better. It asks us, if you were stuck in a time loop, what would you do with that time? Would you spend it learning? Would you try to become more compassionate? How is your everyday routine any different from the Groundhog Day time loop and what might you do with that time to be a little different, grow a little more, enjoy life a little more deeply? In the movie, Conners learns that everyone in Punxsutawney, folks he originally dismissed as rubes, are actually real and lovely people. They are a community anchored by daily routines, shared interests, familial ties, and long standing friendships. He initially resists but eventually folds himself into it. He falls in love and when he finally wakes up on February 3rd and breaks the time loop, he embarks on a new path.

When we say resist the stream and replay the real this is the energy we want to capture. Resist the time loop of impersonal streaming, faceless commerce, and disconnected interactions. Replay the real – real conversations, connections, and creations. Hold your movies, music, and games in your hands. Be intentional about how you consume. Fall in love with the sounds, sights, and sensations that help us build community.

At Rebel Replay we are on the verge of some big announcements. Exciting stuff is on the horizon and we are so thrilled to bring all of you with us on this journey. Today is February 2nd and we are working, building something in the background. Our February 3rd is still a few weeks out but we are so stoked to wake up and embark with you, our fellow rebels, on this new path.
